I began running as a track athlete at 8 years of age. I converted to distance in 1990 to lose pregnancy weight. I’m now 55, have been on the road for a while and I hope to continue until Jesus calls me home.
I have run 4 Bostons including 2013. I saw my first Boston in 1984 as we lived on the course. The marathon intrigued me and seeing the runners, encouraged me to train and go from my event of 60 metres to over 42K. Ran my first Boston in 2011 and have trained for most of my races on the Boston course. In my opinion, it’s the best preparation for a great race performance!
The mental and physical renewal that comes during each run is a great feeling. I subscribe to no such thing as a bad run, only lessons learned. I LOVE looking back and I always find sweetness in the moments of struggle. It’s exciting to know that my ordinary body can overcome the extraordinary via the gift of running.
We are all natural competitors, however, compete for you only! You are a race of one, but an equal to all who crosses the finish line. Follow a credentialed training plan, trust the process, and seek advice from the proven. My sister, also an athlete, once said to me, if you want to be a swan, stop swimming with the ducks! I have intentionally sought out guidance on running, racing, and longevity from the runners that I have seen in my decades on the road to the elites at expos. Lastly, never sacrifice your gift!
